post-its

a morning poem for my goober. 15/09

I want to write you love poems on post-its.
Stick them to our mirror after you shower,
Or maybe place them in the fridge,
on the dwindling carton of milk.
And I’ll send you texts asking you to pick up
a carton, and bread, and a packet of ham.

Like our love, they’ll be simple -
small reminders folded into the day.
You’ll come back to bed
with one discovered, creased in your palm,
and we’ll laugh, and kiss goodbye.

I want our poetry to live in lint traps and receipts,
to hum in the hum of our fridge light,
to rest on your collar
as you step into the noise.
Not grand, but ours -
not loud, but lasting.

I’ll write you love poems
on yellow post-its.
